Last month I was invited to Sassoon Salon‘s Blow & Style event for a taster of their new blow dry ‘menu’ now available across their network of salons. If you have been following my blog since New York, you will understand that I’m pretty excited about the prospect of a good blow dry, since the saying that a good hair day is a good day all round rings true for me, and I became an avid blow dry addict since living in Manhattan. In NYC I learned that a good blowout requires patience, the right tools and products and a level of hand-eye co-ordination that feels impossible for someone with my length and amount of hair to achieve. Treating myself to a weekly blow-dry was the norm and it’s something I’ve continued ever since.
What is exciting about Sassoon’s Blow & Style concept is that they not only offer a complete range of blow dry styles for all hair types, they also offer four statement styles (the braid, the disheveled ponytail, a dressed wave and an uber sleek ponytail) if you want something a little more contemporary.
At the launch event, Sassoon’s Creative Director Bruce Masefield walked us through some of the styles on offer. The ‘loose wave’, which has never been more fashionable (the perfect accompaniment to the 70s looks we are seeing along the catwalks, soon to translate onto the high street) was a beautifully effortless piece of styling using a soft curl tong and paddle brush to smooth out the waves. Most sought after look of the night was ‘the braid’, created on the side with some soft hairs left to brush around and soften the face – a super versatile look which I can’t wait to try.
